NOTRE DAME - The Warren Golf Course at Notre Dame has been recognized as one of the best values among public courses in the United States.
Matt Ginella, travel expert for the Golf Channel unveiled a list of the ten best golf courses in the United States based on value.Ginella defines value as "price of the course compared to others in the area, and the experience that you get based on architecture, conditioning, pace of play and (the ability to) walk."
The Warren was the fourth course on Ginella's list of value courses.
"Beautiful, playable and affordable," Ginella said to summarize the course. He noted that the Warren has played host to several prestigious tournaments including the US Women's Amateur Public Links (WAPL) in 2010 as well as several NCAA regionals.
The Warren Golf Course opened in 1999, designed and built Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw. "If you know anything about Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw, you know that they don't build a bad golf course", Ginella says. "You can't help but say that this is great value."
"It is an honor to be recognized nationally by the Golf Channel," Warren general manager and head professional John Foster says.
"We have always felt that the Warren Course was a great value given the course design, the meticulous conditioning and high level of guest services we provide."
Recently, the Warren was recognized as the sixth best course in Indiana and the 10th best collegiate golf course in lists by GolfWeek Magazine.
Foster adds, "One of the most frequent comments we receive from out-of-town guests is 'if this course were in the Chicago area, it would be at least $200 to play'. It is nice to hear that the people at Golf Channel feel the same way."
The course is open to the general public and can be played for as little as $25 per round.
Coronado Golf Club (San Diego), Wachusett Country Club (West Boylston, MA), Peninsula Golf Resort (Lancaster, KY) and the Highlands (Elgin, IL) round out the first five courses unveiled as the being the best value.
