A car being chased by police in the city of Elkhart crashed with another car in Elkhart County early Saturday, an Elkhart police dispatcher confirmed.
She said the call came in about 12:40 a.m. after a car being chased from Woodlawn Avenue and Cassopolis Street in the city crashed not far from Pete's Tavern on State Road 19 north of County Road 4. (Cassopolis Street turns into State Road 19.) A caller to the SBT24/7 News Desk at the scene said the crash was at the intersection with North Shore Drive at Simonton Lake.
The caller said State Road 19 is blocked on both sides because of widespread debris from the crash, and two people had to be extricated from the car that was hit in the crash. He said the person in the car being chased was taken to the hospital.
