Gwen Stefani has gone from “Just a Girl” to Woman of the Year. The singer is being honored by Glamour magazine as one of its 2016 Women of the Year.
She’s also the mag’s December cover star, and inside, she opens up about an eventful year that saw the release of a new album, This Is What the Truth Feels Like, and a blossoming romance with country star and fellow Voice coach Blake Shelton.
“Sometimes to be woken up again in life, you need to go through some really bad, hard times,” she says. “I feel like I got woken up this year.”
Gwen says Blake “was a friend to me when I needed a friend” and that they actually have more in common than you might think.
“It’s definitely two different cultures. But there are many similarities, in things that we love and our morals,” she says. “But it’s really fun when you can learn about so many new things and share those differences.”
Other women being honored by Glamour this year include Olympic gymnast Simone Biles, model Ashley Graham, actress/singer Zendaya and Black Lives Matter founders Patrisse Cullors, Alicia Garza, and Opal Tometi. U2’s Bono has also been named Glamour’s first Man of the Year.
The awards ceremony will take place November 14 in Los Angeles.
