It’s time to shop today for many of us, as Black Friday and Small Business Saturday officially kick off the holiday shopping season. Retail sales, in stores and online, are expected to be near pre-pandemic levels this year, and it’s only fair to warn you of possible crowds and delays getting around, but also of online scams that pop up every year at this time. Make sure you are using trusted sites on secure servers, and never respond to unsolicited phone calls, texts or emails from places you’ve never heard of or signed up to.
Elkhart County’s election board will meet Monday to resolve problems with voting machines tabulation Concord School Board elections. The problem is that machines in some cases counted additional votes on ballots that voted for more candidates than allowed. No other races were affected, and it was an issue with programming the machines. It’s possible that some school board races in Concord schools were affected.
Democratic US Senator Sherrod Brown of Ohio is calling for the ouster of Trump-appointed postmaster general Louis DeJoy. Brown says DeJoy has done major damage to the postal service, as cuts in operations have slowed mail delivery amid severe financial problems in the service. Hiring has also been a problem, along with the rest of the economy since the pandemic.
Big college football weekend coming up, with 15th ranked Notre Dame at 6th ranked USC Saturday night at 7:30 on Sunny 101-point05. Also Saturday, the showdown between 3rd ranked Michigan and 2nd ranked Ohio State at noon in Columbus. Purdue and Indiana face off at 3:30 in Bloomington, and Illinois is at Northwestern. Michigan State closes at Penn State.
In the NFL: the Detroit Lions fell to the Buffalo Bills, 28-25, Dallas downed the New York Giants, 28-20, and Minnesota beat New England 33-26. Sunday, the Bears are at the New York Jets on Z 94-3, and the Colts play at home Monday night against Pittsburgh on 96-1 the Ton.
7th ranked Notre Dame women’s basketball with an easy win Thursday over American University in the Bahamas, 90-to-65. The Irish men play St. Bonaventure at 4 today on a neutral floor in New York on 960 AM WSBT.
