The tempos are insistent, bordering on hyperactive, as she pounds the keys for delightful rhythmic counterpoint with a swinging drummer. “Rich Kids” and “Sunday Best” lodge bright tunes beneath dark tales. Washington’s lyrics, meanwhile, are charmingly confessional stories about the complexities of modern relationships.
