About Between Us - EP

New Zealand-born, London-based singer-songwriter Jordan Rakei stands on the shoulders of giants—or at least he did in crafting his Between Us EP. The project is the byproduct of Rakei’s time as Artist in Residence at the famed Abbey Road Studios, where the singer pieced together a short set of jazzy and soul-fueled pop songs in collaboration with a select few likewise preternaturally talented peers. Project opener “What It Gave Me,” featuring UK-based singer Jalen Ngonda, sets the table for a chemistry that endures throughout—the pair layering their voices for an exceptionally unified vision of timeless soul. Whether syncing his singing to the drums of Ezra Collective’s Femi Koleoso on “It Never Ends” or gliding over the upbeat groove of “Easy to Love” alongside Jungle’s Tom McFarland, Rakei shows a refined appreciation for collaboration. With rising French house producer FKJ and acclaimed saxophonist and bandleader Nubya Garcia rounding out the lineup of guests, Between Us plays like a pitch-perfect jam session we’re lucky to be in on.
