A smooth beatmaker with old-school crate-digging sensibilities, producer 9th Wonder unveils his own label roster on a compilation full of soul-drenched cuts begging to be blasted at a summertime block party. On “1000ft.,” he loops a dusty sample before leaving his spot behind the boards to hold court in front of the mic. He cedes the spotlight to soul singer Heather Victoria and rapper Rapsody on “I Will Always Be Down,” a ‘70s-style R&B jam combining wah-wah guitars with a jazzy Bob James sample.
