In Menifee, California, 66-year-old Napoleon Fuller raises the American flag outside his home most mornings, a cherished tradition for him. Despite being unable to serve in the military due to blindness in one eye, Fuller has always flown flags over the years. When Vietnam-era Air Force pilot Eddie Lamm and World War II historian Caroline Reeves noticed Fuller’s weathered flag, they decided to bring him a new one, leaving a lasting impression on Fuller. The gesture renewed Fuller’s sense of pride and highlighted that patriotism is about pride, respect, and supporting each other, regardless of military service.
