Michigan Mail Carrier Honored as Hero After Saving Girl from Dog Attack
A Michigan mail carrier is being celebrated as a true hero after a quick-thinking rescue that saved a young girl from a terrifying dog attack. Rungphet Bodnar, from Mid-Michigan Branch 256, recently received the National Association of Letter Carriers’ Central Region Hero Award in Washington, D.C. for her courageous actions.
The dramatic rescue took place last April while Bodnar was delivering mail in Flint. As she made her usual rounds, she saw a vicious dog dragging a young girl by the leg, with a nearby woman struggling to intervene. Without hesitation, Bodnar jumped into action. Armed with her emergency dog spray, she fought off the dog after several attempts, eventually helping the woman free the girl, who required multiple surgeries to recover.
Fortunately, the girl’s recovery was quick, and just a month later, she was back in school. For Bodnar, however, the real reward comes every time the girl runs up to her and gives her a hug whenever Bodnar drives by—proving that, on that day, she delivered much more than just the mail.
