In the United States, parents have the freedom to choose unique names for their children, but there have been instances where certain names have been deemed illegal by the courts. Some banned names include Misteri N-Word, King, Queen, Jesus Christ, III, Santa Claus, Majesty, Adolf Hitler, @, and 1069. Courts have rejected name changes to symbols, numbers, and controversial or misleading names. Notably, a man’s attempt to change his name to Roman numerals was denied, and a high school teacher’s request to be named Misteri (N-word) was also rejected. Despite the freedom to choose names, there are restrictions in place to prevent confusion or offensive choices.
